Make Workforce and Compensation Decisions With Confidence
When compensation pressures, workforce shortages and patient demand are all rising, cardiovascular leaders need data they can trust.
Powered by MedAxcess, MedAxiom's 14th annual Cardiovascular Provider Compensation & Production Survey Report delivers cardiovascular-specific benchmarks from 205 programs and 6,476 providers, helping organizations evaluate compensation, productivity and workforce strategy with confidence.
New this year: We’ve created an Executive Summary of the key findings for busy cardiovascular professionals.

Why Download This Report?
The 2026 Cardiovascular Provider Compensation & Production Survey Report delivers exclusive cardiovascular-specific benchmarks to help leaders:
- Benchmark physician and advanced practice provider (APP) compensation
- Evaluate productivity and work relative value unit (wRVU) performance
- Assess patient demand and capacity trends
- Compare staffing models and APP utilization
- Inform workforce planning and growth strategies
- Make data-driven compensation and operational decisions
Key Trends Driving Strategy
To meet growing demand while navigating workforce shortages and financial pressures, cardiovascular organizations are making significant changes in compensation, productivity and staffing models. These findings highlight the trends shaping cardiovascular care today:
-
For the first time in report history, academic medical center compensation and production data are reported separately in the cardiology and APP sections.
-
Every cardiology subspecialty reported its highest median total compensation in the MedAxiom survey history, with overall median cardiology compensation increasing nearly 5% to $727,712.
-
Cardiology productivity also increased broadly, with all subspecialties reporting higher median wRVU production in 2025; advanced heart failure (HF) posted the largest year-over-year gain at nearly 11%.
-
Median new patient volumes and median patient panel reached record highs in 2025, with patient panel and total new patient visits each increasing 18% over the past five years. Median patient panel per cardiologist is now over 2,000 patients.
-
In response to growing demand and physician scarcity, programs utilized additional APP support. Cardiology APP productivity reached a new benchmark, exceeding 2,000 median annual wRVUs for the first time and increasing approximately 30% since 2021.
-
Cardiac surgery had a standout year, with median total compensation exceeding $1 million – the first time any cardiovascular specialty reached this threshold in the history of the report.
-
Advanced imaging continues to expand rapidly, with median advanced imaging volumes per patient panel increasing 36% from 2024 to 2025 and the ratio of advanced imaging studies to cardiac catheterizations (caths) exceeding 50%.
-
Electrophysiology (EP) volumes are accelerating, with median ablations per EP physician increasing more than 140% over five years.
